CHILDREN
From the radiant smiles of his own children to candid street portraits from the East Coast to the island of Martinique, Alexander’s photography honors the warmth, innocence and curiosity of children. Some images capture their excitement and joy. Others record quiet reverence — such as a young girl watching intently as Jacob Lawrence writes beside her — or pure determination, seen in a pair of siblings navigating an alleyway strewn with hazards on their walk to school. Together, these images present Black youth with tenderness, grace, and an unyielding spirit of resilience.
